Many learners can recognise a Korean word while studying but forget it during a conversation. This happens because recognition and recall are different skills. To remember vocabulary, you need to practise bringing the word back without seeing the answer.
Learn fewer words with more attention
A list of fifty new words may feel productive, but most of it disappears quickly. Begin with ten to fifteen words. Notice the spelling, sound, meaning and one natural sentence for each word.
Test yourself before checking
When using a flashcard, pause before revealing the answer. Make a real attempt to remember. That small moment of effort strengthens recall. If the answer does not come, mark the word for another round instead of feeling discouraged.
Connect the word to a situation
The verb 기다리다 means to wait. Imagine waiting for a friend and say 친구를 기다려요. A situation gives the word a purpose. Personal examples are especially memorable because they connect Korean to your own life.
Useful pattern: Word, meaning, one sentence, one personal connection, then a recall test.
Review at increasing intervals
Review a new word later on the same day, then the next day, after a few days and after one week. Easy words can appear less often. Difficult words should return sooner. This keeps review focused instead of making you repeat everything equally.
Mix recognition and production
Look at 한국어 and recall Korean language. Then look at Korean language and produce 한국어. Add a listening round by hearing the word without seeing it. Each direction trains a different part of memory.
Use vocabulary in reading and speaking
Words become stable when you meet them in several places. Read short passages, notice familiar words in captions and use them in conversation. You do not need to force every new word into one paragraph. Choose a few that suit the topic.
Keep a difficult words list
Do not rewrite every word in a beautiful notebook. Keep one short list of the vocabulary you repeatedly miss. Review that list before adding more. Your mistakes show you exactly where to focus.
Make vocabulary practice easier
Study Korean in both directions, reveal answers, repeat difficult cards and track your progress.
